Microbiome

Microbiome
The microbiome refers to the microorganisms and all of their genetic information that exist in a specific environment.

The human microbiome, which is mostly harmless, consists of bacteria that inhabit various parts of the human body. Commensal bacteria, which play beneficial roles for humans, contribute to health in various ways, such as producing metabolites that humans cannot produce on their own or suppressing the growth of pathogens in the body.

In particular, the gut microbiome, which has a unique composition for each individual depending on genetics, eating habits, and lifestyle, is known to perform various functions related to human health. Gut microorganisms have become a significant research focus, with the world's first oral microbiome treatment approved by the FDA in May 2023.
